Auto components industry sees chances amid crisis
In 2009, the output and sales volume of China's autos for the first time exceeded 10 million sets.
With the increasingly improved output and sales volume of China's autos, China's component industry has also entered a relatively stable period of development after experiencing several years' adjustment and development.
Statistics from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) shows that from this January to August, 10,761 auto component enterprises have accomplished industrial production of 774.5 billion yuan and sales value of 753.8 billion yuan, as well as the export volume of $16.6 billion. It's estimated that the gross output value of auto component industry will reach 1.2 trillion yuan this year.
Narrow gap and keep a firm hand on adjustment
Driven by the rapid growth of China's auto output and sales volume, component industry has won a superexcellent opportunity for development. But at the same time, what shall be seen is that the development basis of China's component industry is relatively weak.
The survey of Society of Automotive Engineers of China shows that the investment of China's auto component enterprises on research only occupies about 1.4 percent of sales revenue, far lower than transnational companies' average level of 5 percent.
Even if for China's No.1 component enterprise, compared with the top 100 automobile component suppliers worldwide, the sales gap is also more than ten folds.
Additionally, in the output of China's core components and parts of autos, including electronic fuel injection systems, engine management systems, ABS and air bags, the products of China's local components and parts manufacturers take a low proportion.
It's urgent for China's component industry to seek for an opportunity from big to power.
Viewing from the policy angle, the Plan on Revitalizing and Adjusting Auto Industry issued earlier this year has made definite mention on such contents as the research & development, independency and industrialization of the key technologies of auto components and parts, the merger and reorganization of components and parts manufacturers and the export of components and parts.
In the future, more specific and definite designs on strategies and policies will be launched for the transformation and upgrade of auto component industry.
Viewing from the industrial angle, Dong Jianping, Deputy Secretary General of CAAM, figured that, "The deep-rooted problems that have existed in China's automobile component industry for several years influence component industry's persistent, stable and sound development, and the structural adjustment is for solving the problem of long-run and sustainable development.
The structural adjustment of component industry shall closely encircle the topic of developing autos with energy saving, emission reduction, safety and new energy." Dong Jianping suggested that to tackle such serious problems of Chinese component enterprises as small scale production, decentralization and repeated construction with low level, China shall support the leading small industry enterprises involved in component professionalization to become big and powerful.
Additionally, it will boost the market competence of China's component industry in a large part if China's related departments, all local governments and financial institutions can take pertinent measures, help leading enterprises to improve development capability and technical transform, support excellent and powerful enterprises, and promote component industry to take a path of intensive development.
Meanwhile, he suggested that all component enterprises shall work well on their own "Twelfth Five-year" development plan and make development targets into the plan according to their own product traits and closely combining with the trend of environmental protection, energy saving, safety and developing low carbon economy, so as to reach a higher level through the "Twelfth Five-year" development plan.
The green manufacture of energy saving, emission reduction and light weight is the development orientation of auto industry, which has put forward higher and higher requirement on the application of new technologies, techniques and materials in auto component manufacture.
The complete car manufacture and component manufacture must pull together and make synergic development. Only having a breakthrough on complete equipment and component manufacture firstly and reaching world-class level, can China's auto industry realize strategic transformation from a big manufacture country to a powerful one.
Convert crisis into opportunity and make full efforts to increase
From this January to September, the export volume of auto components and parts has surpassed the one of the whole last year. Autos and components and parts will become the products with most potential and development prospect in the export of China's mechanical and electrical products.
And as for China's auto component industry, the greatest development is that in recent years, China's auto component export has gradually obtained international recognition and increasingly converted from supplying overseas maintenance market to joining worldwide-famous auto companies' transnational procurement plan on complete autos' components and parts.
For China's auto component industry, the year of 2009 shall be considered as a "warm winter".
Dong Jianping, Deputy Secretary General of CAAM, expressed that the growth rate of China's auto industry began slipping since the fourth quarter of last year, and showing a rapid growth trend gradually till March, 2009. And component industry has also recovered a rapid growth.
Xu Changming, Director of Resource Department, State Information Center, believed that domestic components and parts enterprises' development opportunities are more than challenges, and the most crucial favorable factor is the high growth of China's market.
As long as implementing correct policies and countermeasures, it's no doubt that a batch of excellent and powerful independent components and parts enterprises can grow up.
He analyzed that this year, the development achievements of China's auto component industry can be concluded in four aspects, i.e. rapidly expanded industrial scale with the sales revenue and profit ratio performing well; rapidly increased export, currently, the export of China's components and parts occupies over 10 percent of the globally total export volume; active innovation in components and parts enterprises; key components and parts have realized localized production basically, and a series of products with high value-added, such as safe air bags and ABS, have realized localization basically.
