Light Metals Division Presents
Scholarships, Awards

Honors and scholarships were bestowed on members of the Light Metals Division during the awards luncheon Wednesday.
Three scholarships were given to undergraduate students majoring in nonferrous metallurgy. They were: Laura Jean Lucca, Pennsylvania State University, who spoke on ※A Diffusion Couple Investigation of the Mg-Al Binary System§; Dmitri Nassyrov, McGill University, who presented ※Thermodynamic Reassessment of the Al=Ni System,§ and Michael Frank, University of Wisconsin, for his talk ※Engineering EXPO: Beginning Foundry Fun.§
The following awards were presented: 2010 Light Metals Technology Award 每 Douglas Granger 2010 Light Metals Distinguished Service Award 每 Neale Neelameggham Light Metals Best Paper 每 Anthimos Xenidis, Charalabos Zografidis, Ioannis Kotsis and Dmitrios Boufounos for Reductive Roasting and Magnetic Separation of Greek Bauxite Residue for its Utilization in Iron Ore Industry§ JOM Best Paper 每 Barry Welch, Maria Skyllas-Kazacos and Martin Iffert for ※Applying Fundamental Data to Reduce the Carbon Dioxide Footprint of Aluminum§
Keynote speaker for the awards luncheon was Wayne Hale, executive vice president and CEO of Century Aluminum who discussed ※Aluminum 每 Are We There Yet?§
